The Bestest Friend

I've known Sheree for as long as I can remember. I went to school with Chris and she was his cool mother ( I used to love going to his house because she was always friendly, and allowed us as kids to just chill out and just be kids) Louis was only a baby back then. He used to love impersonating Michael Jackson and he did a mean moonwalk! Sheree was also a friend of my mothers (Linda), they knew each other since they were young girls… back in the day they had a job picking potatoes together… there was some fun had back then as you can imagine… Not one to mince her words Sheree always joked that my arse was big, but not as big as my mothers, and that she should know as she had spent so long looking at it bent over in front of her in the potato fields! As I got older Sheree and I moved in the same circles, so I started visiting her house where, like many of us, we would congregate in the kitchen and laugh, moan and sometimes cry around the table, or cwtched up on the little settee. Ahh... Sheree's kitchen - now those were the days! Anyone who knew Sheree would know about her open door policy; she always welcomed visitors, old and new. More often than not she would have a pot of something on the stove… and more often than not it would take her all day to finish cooking it! But it was always worth the wait, and even the simplest things were so delicious. Sheree was a natural born mother and she thrived on looking after all of us. If she wasn't cooking, she was washing clothes (anyone else remember the smell of Sheree’s washing?) or out and about buying cards and little prezzies… she was always so thoughtful. If for any reason I was feeling low I’d go into auto-pilot and head straight for Sheree’s… no-ne else could ‘fix’ me or make me feel better the way she would… She’d run me a bath, place a small mirror down near the taps (She would tell me to go have a word with myself for a while) before giving me clean pyjamas and welcoming me back downstairs for some of Sheree's special advice....Normally beginning with something along the lines of, "Life? Yeah I know it's shit, but hey life is life!" It didn’t really matter because I always felt better just being around her. Other times Sheree could be found (and heard) moaning at any one of us for not telling her something; she hated being kept in the dark or hearing things second-hand! She always wanted to be the first to know EVERYTHING! These are all the reasons why Sheree became one of my "bestest friends" and the reason why I will love and miss her always. Sheree had many close friends, some I know and probably some I don't. I will always be thankful for sharing her and being a part of her life, and I'm hoping that through this website we can build a lasting tribute to our Special Friend Sheree, together. So please, if you have a memory, picture or a thought, then start writing it – it isn’t so bad once you get started, I should know as this story began with just a few lines... besides, Sheree would have loved this site, her very own website - no one else's, just hers.
